Methadone Clinic Case

We obtained a groundbreaking settlement in St. Louis County District Court totaling more than $8.5 million on behalf of the families of two young men killed in a traffic collision caused by a driver under the influence of methadone.  The case involved a “first-of-its-kind” ruling against a methadone clinic in Minnesota, when, in 2014, St. Louis County District Court Judge Sally Tarnowski held that the methadone clinic had a duty to protect the public from harm caused by the clinic’s negligent provision of methadone.

Under the settlement terms, court clients agreed to collect judgments only from the liability insurers.  A district court judge later held that the insurer for the methadone clinic owed $2 million in coverage.
